    Hi all,

I was wondering everyones opinions on good guitars no more than €600/650. I'm looking for brands other than Fender and Gibson. More 'Obscure' brands. Like the Ibanez Jet King. I want to look at something different that sounds good. Something versitile. What do you think of the Jet King? Help would be appreciated.

The jet king is a nice guitar. If you want something unusual and around that price you need to look in the used market and outside Ireland. Japan would be a good place to start. I like digimart.net for searching for gear. Alternatively for the US you can use gbase.com

Each of these show listings from many different stores, large and small.

Jetking is similar to Teisco, Silvertone, Guyatone, Kent, Kawai etc... however the thing that's good about the Jet King is that it will work. ;)

Got myself a Stiletto Custom off Jarain here on Boards a while ago. Fantastic bass, especially for the price.

I agree. I went shopping with my nephew recently for his first electric, and aftre playing a lot of guitars (in a particular price range), he settled on a vintage les paul copy, a 70s model I think, with mini wilkinson humbuckers.
The neck on the guitar feels great, really good, nice and slim if that's your thing.
I hadn't thought much of Vintage guitars before, but think I might try and pick up a semi hollow soon...

The jetking is a modern take on those other guitars I mentioned. As such, quality is much better. ;)

Other guitars to check out if you want a slightly quirky look would be Danelectros. They make cheap and nice reissues of the old Danos. Very cool!

This is the Danelectro DC59. They have other models too.
Check the link below for a bunch of them. http://www.thomann.de/ie/danelectro_electric_guitars.html

I have a les paul madel and literally only got this one last week: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056069091 450 euro in the guitar centre near musicmaker, it plays amazing.

    Really great guitars!

I just seen you were discussing Danelectro's and thought this might be a good opportunity.

I've had good luck with a very cheap Maison Les Paul copy, set neck all mahogony construction but could do with a pick up upgrade. Much better guitar than any epiphone I've played and a fraction of the price.

I played one of these at the weekend: Michael%20Kelly%20Patriot%20Glory%20SMB.JPG

lovely finish, maybe a bit flashy but very nice. For 400 euro I don't think you can go too far wrong with it. Good reviews too.

Sorry its a Michael Kelly Patriot Glory. The Patriot Custom is 500 quid.

    Where?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,126 ✭✭✭darrenw5094

    Where?

Probably eBay, but part of the attraction with the Carvin, is that you get to custom order on their website exactly to you liking. The only issue i have with them, is the limited choice of headstocks.
