Remote desktop, Windows 7 to Windows 2000

I'm trying to accesss an old Windows 2000 machine, from my Windows 7 machine. I know this is a specific set of circumstances but has anyone any experience with this set up?

When I run 'Remote Desktop Connection' on the W7 machine, and enter in the name of the W2000 computer, I get an error; saying roughly "Can't connect due to: 1. Remote access to the server is not enabled, 2. Remote computer is turned off, 3. Remote computer is not available on the network".

The computer is definitely on, and connected to the network, so really, I need to know how to enable remote access on the W2000 machine. Googling around suggested going to Control panel > System, then a Remote tab where it can be enabled, but that tab doesn't appear on mine.

    Any help would be appreciated

As far as I know the 2000-level editions of Windows only allowed incoming RDP connections on the server versions, not the desktop versions. You might be able to get the XP Pro version of RDP to work on Win2k, but I wouldn't bet on it...

Personally, I'd suggest using something like RealVNC instead.

Thanks for the quick response. It's Windows 2000 professional on the older machine, so I guess I might be stuck.

    Thanks again for the help

edit: And thanks a third time, I've got real VNC running now, and it's doing the job fine. Cheers
