Hi. I've just set up a society at work.

All I did was send round an email to gauge interest and then when I knew I had a fair amount of interest I rang a club and booked a number of tee times explaining that it was for a society. I collected deposits of €10 from everyone telling them they were non-returnable. We scored the event using stableford and allowed handicaps up to 36. There was only 12 of us but I decided we needed to at least have one event to get others interested. The company wouldn't sponsor us so we've created it seperate from work and anyone is able to join. I sponsored the prizes for the first event (only a winners trophy, longest drive and nearest the pin).

We'll be doing the same for next month although it will be a scramble event.

For next year we have registered with www.mygolfsociety.ie and have booked a number of courses through them. This took out any hassle. We got a book: "Golf Society Bible" and then chose the courses and dates we wanted online. A few phone calls to confirm bookings and everything is sorted.

Regarding GUI... I emailed and asked them what benefit there is in becoming affiliated. A listing on their website and being put on a mailing list seemed to be it. They also said some clubs will refuse our booking if we aren't GUI. That hasn't been a problem though. We might still become affiliated if we gain 15 members but are still undecided.

The hardest part so far has been choosing / designing a logo!

    For our job.

I sent a mail to entry course in Dublin and surrounding countries asking for prices.

Let the courses come to you instead of you go to the courses
