I have a dell vostro 1500 which is just over three years old. All of a sudden the battery is coming up as "no battery detected" and only works when plugged in.

A while ago I had a message on the laptop saying my battery would soon need replacing or something. Surely they havent put a timeline on the batterys they put in their laptops?

No probably just a piece of software that monitors the battery status.

If your battery no longer works then the monitor must have been pretty accurate.

No the battery doesnt work anymore. Is it just case of replacing it? Is this common with Batterys to one day go from working grand to not working at all?

Just resurrecting this to see if anyone can help.

Basically as my original post states my laptop wont detect that there is a battery and when I want to use my laptop I have to have it plugged in.

At the bottom right on the batter/charging icon there is just a red x over it and simply says "No battery detected".

Anyone any idea what could be the problem?
