query on purchasing XC90 in North

    Hi there,

I've spotted an XC90 from Autozone in Coleraine that I am going up to see on Saturday. However I just did one of those online vehicle checks that says there is an outstanding finance agreement from Black Horse Finance and also states that the mileage is inconsistent with that registered with the British Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association.

So on the face of it, looks not worth heading up for - anybody got any experience with this type of thing (I haven't contacted the garage yet and the Finance company is closed for the evening, but i intend to call them tomorrow and hopefully track down the last owner). Any help or advice greatly appreciated.

You mean you have to ask for a second opinion after finding out this about the car? I'd be running away not walking.......

Because it could be inaccurate. I'm wary about the accuracy of online vehicle checks, and I'm particularly dubious that any car could run up 52k miles in 10 months!

Have you verified the service history with the dealerships who stamped the book? That should at least clarify the mileage issue.

What's the indicated mileage/mileage according to the report?

Wath out for ones up to '05, some of them develop very expensive problems in the steering rack. You can feel early symptoms as a clicking feedback when steering. As it progresses, it becomes more difficult to steer after a cold start until steering is almost impossible.

It pays to be sceptical, but it also is worthwhile checking. In both cases the information on the vehicle check was inaccurate, due to the previous owner of the car transferring a registration plate to the car that had previous history with a finance company and was showing up as having done the miles. I called Experian who verified this as well as the Finance company, both of which gave written confirmations of this to me. :)
