Phantom Head Gasket Leak: Volvo S80 T6

So I started getting the coolant along with a little oil out the exhaust so I decided to do some diagnosing before I go pulling the head off etc. It started while it was idling in the garage so it didnt really get much time to mix oil oil and coolant. Both looked normal. However I can't get the feckin think to leak now no matter what I do (Bar starting it)....

Pressure tested the cooling system to 20PSI, holds pressure for hours, no sign leakage in turbos, exhaust, cylinder or inlet.

Did a leakdown test on each of the six cylinders, putting 90-100PSI in each one through the spark hole and holding it for minutes, no bubbles in the cooling system.

Any other ideas? The turbos are coming off tonight so ill inspect them for cracked housing. Has me baffled though. As for the cause of the leak, that's another story, I still have to figure that out too...

Are you sure it's coolant and not just condensation?

I'm wondering the same as Anan. Maybe you just have a turbo failing and water is from condensation.

Either that or the hg is only leaking when the engine is warm. Have you tried letting it idle with the pressure tester still on the cooling system. Then seeing how long it takes for the pressure to decrease after the engine is turned off. If the pressure falls really quickly you have a leak.

I wish it was, but it definitely smelled like coolant, or more accurately the flush stuff that was in there at the time. The steam filled the garage pretty quick, at a later stage I could smell oil being burned too. Plus the engine had been running for about 30mins driving too.

Im thinking thats what it is. I didnt get the pressure tester until I had most of the stuff stripped off, inlet manifold and soforth, I'm considering slapping it back together though.....Any suggestions on how I can check for good coolant circulation?. Last time I had it running the heater was working like a champ but the bottom hose on the rad colder was that I thought it would be.

Also I pressurised the cooling system to 22psi, let it sit for 10mins, reset to 22psi and over 1hr it lost .5psi total. Doesnt seem like a lot to me. Opinions?

    Is it using much coolant?

EGR coolers can sometimes leak internally and the issue may not show up until they get hot enough and expand.

I ran it for such a short time once I saw the steam that I dont know. Ill look into EGR though, thanks....
