Hi everyone.

Just a quick question regarding vrt.

My sister is moving back to Ireland from UK after being there for few years. She got a car few months ago and I'm just trying to find out will she have to pay the normal rates of vrt?

She'd have to own the car in the UK for over a year before she could bring it back VRT free.

Not a year.
6 months.
Besides there is a separate thread about vrt where everything is explained.

Other exemptions
There are different reliefs and exemptions from VRT. Even if you are not required to pay VRT, you must still register your vehicle when you come to Ireland - see 'Rules' below. The following groups are exempt from paying VRT:

• Certain disabled drivers
• People who have owned and used their vehicles abroad for more than 6 months and who are moving permanently to Ireland
