Torrent downloading problem

Not sure if this is the right place for this, so sorry Mods if I'm wrong!

I'm using Mac OSX, and trying to use Bit Torrent to download, and it's working fine, but my download speeds are pretty low. I reckon this is because there's a little red circle in the bottom right corner, which tells me 'port not connectable' and I need to open the port. There's no firewall on so I don't know what to do to fix it. Any suggestions?

You have to open the port in your router. How you do this depends on the router, but it's usually straight-forward enough.

All I can say is OH YEAH. Full speed downloading. That's awesome, thank you very much.
