Anyone know the procedure for exporting a van to Northern Ireland.. My mate who from Cavan sold a transit to a guy and he says he needs the logbook with the van to re-register it immediately MOT and tax it in the North.. He Showed his ID etc and all is ok...

I’m looking for a van and Ireland is in my search area (am in UK)... as far as I’m aware what he says is true - he needs the log book to register it (though I'm not sure if he needs it for the MOT - but saying that they may need to check the VINs match up).

from what I understand is you take a photo copy of the reg details and send it to the offices in Shannon stating that it's been exported - when it's registered in the UK the DVLA contact the correct authorities and let them know that it's been re-registered in the UK. Imported vehicles have to be registered in the UK within 28days of entry to the country
