Need help with taxes

I have my part-time permanent job with a company, on 11.4k a year.

In addition to that, I have freelance journalist work that I started 6 months ago. They pay me monthly as a freelance journalist, so I've to do my own taxes as I'm self employed. I'm making approximately 8 - 10k a year with that.

What I want to know is this - how do I do my own taxes? I've no idea what to do about the money I'm making from freelancing.

Thanks in advance. Any help on this will be greatly appreciated. :D

It sounds like you meet the criteria for registration with the Revenue as "self assessed" for tax purposes based on the proportion of your income being earned without PAYE deducted.

You probably won't need accounting help for registration and making returns, but read the following from Revenue including the linked documents and decide for yourself - http://www.revenue.ie/en/business/self-assessment.html

Excuse my ignorance, but none of this makes any sense to me.

Is there anyone that could offer an explanation in layman's terms?
