To all the rough shooters I am just wondering what preparations you are making for the 1st of November. I have cleaned the gun about a dozen times, walked the life out of the springers, filled the belt with 32gram sixes and debated relentlessly with myself as to what route I will take and if someone else has the same plans what the backup plan will be. I have decided to go it alone for the morning and decided not to " ramble " until a couple of weeks have passed by...
What are your plans and what gun/dog/cartridge will you use.

(I am new to boards after moving from thehuntinglife I got fed up with the constant lad/mate/pal/buddy/son/boy culture that is carried out on that site.)

    welcome aboard.

monday the first, i'll most likely get up and scrounge together mix of shells i have in my game bag and go meet up with the brother in-law.
i have a fair idea where i will be going, and i hope there will be a couple of nice birds there.
the only thing i'm sure of is my springer bitch (rosy), she is steady and up for the job and mad for action. ;)

I was out with my springer's today rose a couple of birds and also a few snipe. so i will probably retrace my steps on the 1st. might try one or two more spots before the first to see if there are many birds around. springers are fit after two months of duck shooting, gun is cleaned, belt is full of 6's and 7's. roll on the first......

I have been topping up the feeders these past few weeks and here and there the odd cock pheasant would scuttle away as I approached. Walking down the lane to darach beag a covey of partridge flushed from the high ditch beside me and as I steped on the bog I startled a snipe which flushed taking two of its friends with him. Beauty is, my first day is this Saturday. Ah, the north, it's not all about cheap shopping you know. :D

Funny enough the dog flushed a few three quarter grown wild poults, I will have to be careful of what I aim at.

    Mallards,
That second photo has to be a 'last year' bird - the birds of this year that I have seen have not put on much in the way of tail feathers yet:(
Going out for snipe next Saturday, phezzies on Monday:):):)

Nov 1st 2008, I went out with the shotty, saw nothing all day.
~4:30 I saw a Phezzie in a 45 acre field, However there were 4 deer in the other.
I dropped home the shotty and got my Sako 6.5 at the time, 1 hour later I got a lovely neck shot fallow doe!!:D

Afraid not, His head and neck still hadn't completely turned green. I need to be careful what I'm shooting tomorrow as it will be a few weeks before these guys are fully ready. Luckily there are a few monster birds knocking around. ;)

Yes, I still run two out of the four that I have. The old bitch will get the first run tomorrow then her son. I usually run them as a brace but my buddy wants to give his springer her first time out also. I've also got a GSP who will be getting his first full season this year so it will be interesting the first time I run the three of them together during the season. Do you have any yourself?
