who is seamus meadows?!

Reading the book at the monent at a slow pace and i've just gotten to the bit where pius mulvey is in the prison on the ship for his own protection and then a member of the hiberinan defenders comes to taunt him about killing him, pius eventually recognises him as seamus meadows, a name i know was mentioned before in the book but i can't for the life of me remember where an when!

He is mentioned by the captain as being in prison on the ship at the start of the book.
Also by David Merridith. He had seen him in the prison and recgonised him from Galway.
