Canteen Prices?

This morning I decided to treat myself to breakfast in the main canteen. Took two pieces of bacon and a styrofoam cup of the filter coffee. 'That'll be €3.98' said the girl at the register! I politely refused, just took my coffee and left.

Is that the normal price? If so, is there somewhere on campus I can complain about this to? Considering Kylemore do a 4 piece breakfast with tea and toast for under a fiver, and the quality is about the same, I really can't see the DCU overheads being so huge compared to O Connell Street that it warrants that mush of a difference?

I hear those salt packets are pretty pricey.

We should stage a student protest in anger over these prices.

Really, you're right though. I haven't eaten in the canteen in a long time. The prices just aren't worth it.

Desperate measures prompt desperate actions ;) (that and I had ten minutes to eat and drink and the queue for Starbucks marginally better stuff was long-ish :D )

The canteen has always been overpriced for the food that is provided. I suggest going to Eurospar and get a full dinner for under a fiver. Its not bad either. :)

It's ridiculous. 4.90 for a small bowl of pasta!
I only go there for the chocolate cake of a Thursday!!

DCU has always ripped the students off. I am doing a Masters now(did my degree in DCU as well) and I now boycott the restaurant/spar etc. as they actually take the piss with their prices.

You are better off going to the shop near shanowen for food or bring your own in.

Use the canteen in the basement of the Library guys. Its definetly the best on campus.
I remember last year a decent meal was about a fiver and paninis, sandwiches etc were around €3.50 or €4

I went to the canteen once, never again, way overpriced.
I either bring in food or go to the spar in shanoween or the eurospar out the Ballymun road.

The canteen maybe over priced but its not the worst. that prize goes to the restaurant in the nursing building. i got tea, one piece of bacon and a scone. €5.35. good think i was in the nursing building cos i was nearly sick!!! The Business School restaurant and the Library Cafe are a bit better and not too busy most of the time. only problem is the small selection of food

they have been doing this in the canteen since I was an undergrad in 1987. the only way to eat relatively cheaply in there is to do the combos. Most people dont look at the "student specials" on the board and so are fleeced really badly

bit of a cafe thing on the top floor. just keep heading up towards the front of the building, you'll find it easily enough :)
