Straight

I recently acquired a vintage straight razor and have just sent it off to be cleaned, polished and honed.
The razor is from Joseph Fenton & Sons and dates from between 1860-1895. Picked it up at a car boot sale.

Question now is: what else do I 'really' need?

I already have a brush and all the face prep gear from DE shaving but is there anything else that is really necessary for straight razor shaving?

    You'll definitely need a strop.

I find 'time' the other crucial ingredient.

Get a cheap strop to start, it's easy to nick it whilst stropping at the start and better to do so on a less expensive one . Hold off buying an expensive one until stropping becomes something you could do blindfolded.

So, for now, would you recommend the cheapest strop I could find?
I'll probably get one off eBay cheap enough, but don't want to waste money either.

In addition to the strop, strop paste (yellow) is important, and if you really want to go the whole hog you need a hone too.
