If You Like 'Chuck'...

For those of us who enjoy watching 'Chuck', what other TV shows would you recommend, be it because they appeal to a similar audience, or they are of a similar genre?

    I'll start I guess... :pac:

    Firefly

    firefly1.jpg

Created by Joss Whedon, the man behind 'Buffy' and 'Angel', 'Firefly' is set in the future, when man has taken to the space, looking for a new home as Earth is now uninhabitable. It focuses on a crew of a firefly-class smuggling spaceship, led by Captain Mal (Nathan Fillion), and their exploits, trying to evade capture by the authorities.

The main reason I suggest this show in the thread, besides it being fantastic anyway, is Adam Baldwin's involvement. For those of us who love watching Casey, Adam plays a similarly tough character in Firefly, however, 'Jayne' enjoys being on the wrong side of the law.

There is also some niiiiiice ladies on board the ship, namely Morena Baccarin, Jewel Staite and Summer Glau.

The show lasted only one season, due to mismanagement by Fox, and was cancelled, so it doesn't take long to catch up on the story. There has also been a film made, called 'Serenity', which should also be sought.

    Any other suggestions?

Anyone who hasn't seen Firefly/Serenity is crazy IMO.

Never even heard of it before... I shall have this grievous error rectified soon enough though!

Morena Baccarin, Jewel Staite and Summer Glau all in one show. Win.

Alias is a similar spy-themed show (but without the humour). The first 2 seasons are some of the best TV I've seen in the last 10 years.

I also think anyone not watching Castle is crazy too!

    The Big Bang Theory

This one will undoubtedly divide people, but there is a reason I am including it. Nerd humour has been on the rise for years. Both 'Chuck' and 'The Big Bang Theory' make a lot of hay with it. It also includes Kaley Cuoco /drools

After that, the similarities between the shows end. TBBT is a sit-com based around four nerd friends who live across the hall from a hot chick. It was created by the man behind 'Two and a Half Men' so you can get an idea of the humour used from that show.

The best barometer for whether you will like the show is Bill Parsons. He plays the character of Sheldon, the head geek if you like. If you find him funny, you will love the show. If not, just avoid it.

It is currently in its fourth season and IMO is getting better as it goes on. The interplay between Bill and Kaley is what sells the show.

    Again, Kaley

i love TBBT also, but i feel its plateauing creatively since the start of season 3, and has become a bit to reliant on sheldon and pennys interactions, which while being gold, are becoming a bit much, also leonard has become totally redundant as a caracter, i still love the show but as i said its kinda leveled off creatively and if it doesnt have an upsurge soon it could go downhill fast,

i think people who like chuck might like a new series, No Ordinary Family, starts off with a family trip that ends up with all the family acquiring superpowers, kinda plays well off the dramady aspect, and withholding of there secrets, even from each other, no real sexual tension, but its just staring out,

Agreed - I really enjoyed the first series of it especially - after that I felt the characters got too depressing/serious the whole time, and the plots just kept getting more and more bizarre!

Might I suggest "Hustle" (and too a lesser extent its American cousin "Leverage"), to anyone who likes Chuck? It's about a team of con artists in London, and is pretty "slick" in the way Chuck is. (Well slick's not the word I'm really looking for - but you know what I mean!) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0379632/ It shows on Bravo a lot these days - really entertaining show, and great fun to watch :D
