I believe this means that they're waiting on a behaviour report before they go back to court. He's not actually been tried yet.

There is no such thing as a Garda Behaviour report, they possibly mean a probation report,

So what connection has he actually got to the Gardai apart from 'wanting to be one'?

A tenuous and inflammatory connection to the Gardai at best. And asides from that, this young person, not only being an alleged thief, they have also got a lot of either foolishness or optimism, as I believe the Gardai are not currently taking in recruits and that the college is a bit of a ghost town.

That's the actual headline of the article, so there is no need to change it.

If only he was a 'young lottery winner hopeful' this might never have happened.

Or a 'nobel prize-winner hopeful' and he might have been smart enough not to get caught.

He obviously only did it to see how he might deal with the situation had he caught himself in the act.

It was just practice for life on the beat.
