VW Fault Finding

    Hello All

I previously posted here a number of mths ago. I have a 99 TDI golf which has a problem of shuddering when slowing down/ approaching lights. I brought it to a garage who tested it and said it was anti- shudder valve. However he wasnt sure how to fix it so sent me to another garage - who did a computer test on it - it also showed up as a problem with anti-shudder valve and he said he reset the problem on the computer and it should be fine. However it was still the same.
I took bulls by horn and brought it to a main VW dealer who then tested it and said they could find no fault.
My question is could the mechanic in second garage have deleted the fault showing up on computer - so that when i went to VW dealer no fault was showing up.

This may be a stupid question but am unsure of answer.

    thanks in advance

if a fault showed up and he deleted it and its not showing up now usually means the problem that caused the ecu to log the fault has not happened since..

Is the shudder through the chassis or the steering wheel?

its through the chasis - when i am approaching lights or going very slowly (less than 5 miles an hour) then car kinda revs slightly or shudders - like as if it going to cut out. Mystery is first 2 garages said it was problem with anti-shudder valve but VW found no fault - said it could be faulty ECU. Any help really appreciated. My gut feeling is maybe problem with anti-shudder valve or electrics to anti-shudder valve but i not a mechanic so not sure.

Could be a MAP Sensor? Does it cut out at all when the car hits idle?

Car and engine is perfect once i stopped at lights its only when slowly approaching them that engine slightly revs up and down. Car never cuts out but when approaching lights its like its going to cut out. What is map sensor? Does this sound like a problem with map sensor. Thanks for your help

Heres a picture of a MAF. Its the sensor plug part connected between the air filter box and the black pipe running to the trottle body.

Try taking it off and giving it a clean, put back on and try the car. If you do end up goin to VW.

Get talking to one of the mechanics and ask can they do a MAF swap. 5minute swap see if its the fault.

Most mechanic should do this at no charge. No point buying one if its not at fault.

I'd also check for any broken/cracked pipes. Letting too much air in.
    Good luck.
