    Hi

I've been on a 4 day week staring last month and will probably go on for a while. I have been taking Mondays off but its flexible as to what day I take off. Next week with the bank holiday I am curious as to what I am entitled too. Boss man is saying I might not be entitled to my extra day off....??? Curious what my entitlements are in this situation...?

    Cheers

As far as I'm aware you are still entitled to a paid day off for the bank holiday. Working a 4 day week has no impact on this. The only exception that I could see was if you were part time and hadn't worked a total of 40 hours in the 5 weeks preceding the bank holiday.

Have a look here for more information -> http://www.citizensinformation.ie/categories/employment/employment-rights-and-conditions/leave-and-holidays/public-holidays-in-ireland

Think your boss may need to do a little bit of research into what his/her employees are entitled to.

You are entitled to 1/5th of your average weekly working time (i.e. 6.4 hours) worth of pay or time off.

No worries mate. Just to clarify, your boss said you might not be entitled to your "extra day off".

It's not an extra day off, it's a paid bank holiday all full time employees and many part-timers are entitled to. The extra day you are already taking is at the company's request, not yours. You are not being paid for it so in this context is afaik irrelevant.

    Enjoy the bank holiday ;)

The extra day off I refer to would be my normal day off as part of my 4 day week. So in effect the bank holiday next week will be taken. There is no dispute about that. So from what I read, as I am only being paid for 4 days a week, I can take the 6.5 hours off as well as the bank holiday....??? This is the first time in 16 years that I have not worked a full week so I am completely out of touch with the technicalities of this stuff...! Thanks so much for your help.

If you work a bank holiday you're entitled to 1/5th of your normal working week as paid OR time off in addition to the normal salary you get for working X hours that day. This decision on time or money is done in agreement with your company.

If you're day off falls on the bank holiday you still have the same entitlements of 1/5th of your normal working week as paid in addition to what ever other hours you work that week.

If you need to bring something in to argue the point then I'd recommend to print out the citizen information page on the subject.
