    Hi all

I'm getting a new car well new to me and it's out of tax my question is can I tax it without the log book? Also the car is out of tax the past few months I know a new owner dose not have to pay any back tax but how do I show that I'm the new owner on the car without the log book?

I wouldn't touch any car that doesn't have a logbook.

If it's just a case of the owner losing it, get him to send off for a replacement, and buy the car when he recieves it. If not, I'd walk away.

I think your entitled to a few days grace to wait for the new log book. You'll be grand driving around until then. You should be entitled to tax it from the 1st of november too rather than paying for the last few days left in october.

There's no grace period for having no tax on a car.

Also, there's no paying for the last few days of a month, or entitlement to go from the next month despite a day or two.... you pay from the 1st of the month it was bought in. If you dont want to pay tax for this month, buy it next month.

Technically no there is no official grace period, but if you can produce a receipt for the sale of the car showing it's recent enough to not have your logbook back I highly doubt anyone Garda will ticket you.
