Settle an argument for me. A friend claims that all tm aeg are plastic due to.some Japanese law.

    True or false.

non are steel, but a few of the newer models are an alloy (receivers/body's)

sopmod m4 series, ak74m and aks74u are all metal the older models are plastic

There is a restriction that means they cant use full metal construction in their guns, yes.

I think TM are not worth buying today given the choice of other non-japanese high end guns without this restriction.

I think they're still worth buying, I just don't think they're worth the money being asked for them. Much of that is to do with the ridiculous exchange rate and the Japanese economy at present though, so it should come back to better levels.
Something like a VSR isn't going to be beaten by any of it's rivals, for example. Some of their other offerings, like their AUG A1, are now back on top spot in that model type with the absence of the likes of JG these days.
I think they're missing a trick by not revamping their FA-MAS with an upgrade from it's legacy design. Personally, I can't stand the thing (real or airsoft, having handled both), but it performs well and has devoted fans. Even if they just upgraded the plastic body to a studier nylon one (with less of the horrific creaking), it'd be enough to see sales increase in it.

Anywho, that's a bit off topic, but Puding covered it in the first reply. They do some metal bodies, but very few due to the restrictions of Japanese law that Stercus mentioned. Same deal with their pistols, it's not exclusive to AEG's.

TM for me was always the "players" gun. someone wants performance and practicallity.

The best of range, decent reliability and are lightweight rifles.

didnt know there was a specific reason to the plastic though, learn something new everyday as they say ;)

Just got my first aeg. It's a tm m4 and its abs. The barrel and some parts are metal but either way its a sweet bit of kit.

Lightweight in a skirmish can only be a good thing.

Ive owned and still own a few of their guns famas sv,mp5a5,mp5k,mp7,m14 socom, m161a1 vn,l96 and m3 super 90 along with a shed load of their gas pistols deagle, detonics, meu and hicapa, i havent been dissapointed with any of them except the m16a1 vn which was a chunk of sh1t.They have excellent range out of the box and as you say are incredibly light, the only thing is with the way the yen is at the moment they are expensive.

I own someother brands as well like G&P, kALASH AND ca and in all honesty none of them compare to the marui's.
