Rite the story is I done a clean install of vista a few months ago being stupid I loaded the wrong version of it I should have loaded the premium version but I installed the basic version and it wont accept the product key. Now windows has locked its self out leaving the computer unusable. I need to know is they anyway I can get the cd rom drive to work without using windows so I can install the correct version. A fella at work told me I can hold down f12 or f8 during start up to access a menu that will let me used the cd rom drive. Can anyone confirm this?? and give be some instruction on how to do it or even a link to a tutorial online as I can find one anywhere.

What you're trying to do is boot from the CD drive, rather than the hard drive.

Depending on your motherboard and BIOS, you can either hit F2 or Del to go into the BIOS configuration and change the first boot device to CD, or you can check if there's an option for a once-off boot menu (on Dell computers this is usually F12, for example). That will let you choose what you want to start from, and you can then choose your optical drive.
