Depends on what kind of quality you're looking for.

For SD, the cheapest route would probably be the easycap.

    Powercity stock something similar.

For HD, then you have 2 main choices
    The Hauppauge HD PVR
    or
    The Blackmagic Intensity Shuttle

For bricks and mortar, the latter seems to be the only viable option.

Hey man, I was in the same boat. I bought a dazzle dvc 130 in maplin for 70 Euro though and its decent quality ,and you get some software with it. Ideal for beginners,
heres my YouTube, you can judge the quality yourself.

i know they do ezcaps in dublin but im not sure where, i got mine here: http://cgi.ebay.ie/EzCAP-116-easycap...item19bfc9edf8

if you want you can get a 3v card here:https://www.3v.ie/ for free. then go into the carphone wherehouse or any other shop and you can top it up like your phone credit! simply and no risk of you being robbed of all your money!

I don't think ezcaps are sold bricks and mortar here.

Official ezcaps aren't but as I said above, Powercity have pretty much the exact same type of product for €30+

Probably way over the odds, price wise, but if you're really that interested in buying one.........

    Hey unknownNinja,

Have a look at this post.

unfortunatly the cheapest HD you could get would be the Hauppauge HD PVR which is about €175 inc delivery. (Thats not too much more than your budget)

    Using HDMI?
One of the guys in our clan bought this for €99

and a HDMI splitter for a little more

Apparently there's some tricks with drivers/software to remove HDCP (will need to google) - so check it out.
Video quality he's posted up seems pretty good

I use a hauppage with component on PS3. It's pretty good although there is some loss of quality on the tv screen.

An example of the quality from a live tournament:

to be honest that quality is pretty amazing considering the crappy conditions it was done in (virtually no space or time to set up in, all done on my laptop).

So I'd deffo recommend le hauppage pour votre HD recording needs.

    Currently I have:
    1)SD CapCard (Dazzle DVC 130)
2)Family PC at the other side of the house.
    3) SD TV. ( sometimes I game on a monitor via vga to xbox cable )
    I would like
    1)HD CapCard
2)Laptop which I can game on and wont be too overburdened by the large files of capped gameplay.( Capped from xbox )
3)Gaming monitor with a HD output for the Cap

Im stuck between the HD PVR and the BMI. Though Ill go with the cheaper option.
If you know any brands or items which would help me with what I would like then please let me know.

They are both the same price

I recommend the PVR because of the portability

I thought the BMI was small?

It has to be installed on a PC where as the pvr is fully portable

looks like Im getting the PVR so.
My dazzle can only be used on one PC due to the software :(
    Thanks Tallon

Why can't you use it on a laptop?

  • Registered Users Posts: 33 Stupidly Naked

    I dont have one yet.
When I do have the portability of capping would be a priority in the case of LANs
