Did this in the past to an Impreza, best thing i'd do is if you can
get similar brake set up off a model like yours that has rear disc's.

I got mine off a 2 litre turbo from the scrapyard. All the parts coat
€100 euro. Got calipers, hubs, discs and pads and stabilising bars.

Took 2hours to do the swap, grap any extra nuts and bolts off the donor
car, two bolts wrung off my car.

    Good luck.

Hmm... I think you'll find your insurance comany won't like it. Modded brakes is going to worry them for sure.

New calipers, pads and disks alone must be well into the 100's of euro. Plus you'll need a new hub I guess and carrier... hmm really sounds like more hassle than it's worth.

It's probably easier to buy a different car!

Can't imagine how tbh, they might request an engineers report to confirm it is safe, its also even possible your insurance might even drop!

70-80% of your braking is done on your fronts, the money would be better spent on better pads and discs up front and maybe some braided lines along with a higher quality brake flluid

Back brakes really do contribute very little, pull your handbrake on a safety track ( :D or similar) when doing 40 to 60 mph and you'll see how little they do. Don't do it in an Alfasud, Xantia or some old Saabs though :pac:

Meant to say i also upgraded the front brakes to twin pots also
off a WRX. I just did it for the look of it for the 16inch gold
wheels. The insurance company were grand, guess i was lucky.

Up to yourself OP, the second hand parts i got were 100%.
Propably helps that i worked as a mechanic. But i'd give it a go.
The front up-grade if nothing else.

I'm pretty sure fto rear discs and calipers go on.

Oops. Fto is 5 stud. Lancer would probably fit. As mentioned it probably wouldn't benefit you majorly

OP don't forget that if you swap the drums for disks, the brake bias would be messed up. You would get extra braking at the rear and under heavy braking, the rears could lock up and the car would swap ends.

You would have to change hubs, handbrake cable, master cylinder, possibly rear arms and/or rear struts. Also you'll have to get brake pipes sorted also.

As others have pointed out, most of the braking effort is done by the front and it's an insurance nightmare. If you're doing it for "looks" forget it. It's not worth the hassle.
