Enjoy it, you'll never have another 1st season ;)
Also what will be the main things i will need with me when out (apart from gun and dog:D).

Cartridges :P, game bag/small rucksack, bottle of drinking water, small 1st aid kit & mobile phone
And finally any tips on clothing.
    Cheers:)

Multiple layers rather than wooly jumper and a big coat. Put on layers if cold take 'em off if warm, good pair of boots with 2 pairs of socks light pair on 1st heavier pair on over them rather than wellies

Safety first and last. Go out safe and come home safe. First day excitment can lead us all to do silly things. Remember there may be someone the other side of a ditch.

Bring a packet of sugary sweets and a drink.
Have fun and take a pic of that first bird, stick it up in the photo thread here

Keep it simple, safe, and fun.

Don't get cluttered up with gadgets and gizmos.

Keep the safety on until you are ready to take the shot.

Know your land, the target, and 6 miles beyond.

Remember - it is called hunting, not catching.

    Have fun.

First rule in a rookie year of shooting - don't go out on your own. If you are with a club find a member to take you out. Learn the ly of the land. Where to shoot and not to shoot. Get to know the locals, farmers and to to mention the animals in the field. You will need more than a packet of those baby wipes tackleberry mentioned when you find yourself surrounded by an angry little herd of cows. Last but not least definitely don't go out on your own first day of season as it's like gun fight at the ok corral lol

For the first bird that gets up, dont pull on him, just mount the gun and focus on following his flight path and determining the correct lead. If you dont 'have' to shoot him, its amazing how easy it is to get on a bird. Helped me out when I started and there 'will' always be another bird. If you know there are birds a plenty, maybe give the first few the same treatment. All in all, take your time because you 'do' have lots of it and most importantly, enjoy your first day and season!

I know it's a simple one but unload the gun for every obstacle

Don't pull the trigger on any bird without sky behind it. Very easy to stay safe if you keep that in mind.
