Just wondering about this whole cross country running lark. I wouldn’t mind giving it a go, I think it would be fun, although I hear the calibre at these pretty high.

Would I be out of depth in the men’s division (my best 10k on the road is just under 40 mins).

Where can I find out where the races are on?

    Any help would be appreciated.

Here are a few sites which can guide you

    www.dublinathletics.com/

    www.athleticsleinster.com/

There are few as was already mentioned novice is a good starting point. The Leinster XC Novices is on this weekend down in Mullingar if you would be interested

And if you're Dublin based, check out bhaa.ie - great series of XC events over the winter and cater for all levels, definitely within your league.

^ What he said. BHAA is what you want, caters for absolutely everyone and every level.

Most importantly they have cake afterwards.

That cake is the pits. Half a kilo of butter spread on each slice..yuk
    Keep it plain and simple..

What do you mean by this YFlyer? Is there a website for them? I hope these questions don't sound too daft!!:o

    Thanks.

    Hi Toblerone1978

The Novice category is for anybody who either hasn't run cross-country before or hasn't yet won a cross-country medal (excluding Juniors, I think?)

The standard would not be as high as the Senior races even though there would be some good juniors coming up through the ranks.

I'm a bit out of the loop myself. What is intermediates? is it age related? Thanks

There are three different categories and are not based on age but rather ability

Novice - Those who havent won a XC or long distance track (1500m or more) medal at any level in senior competition

Intermediate - Those who havent won a XC or long distance track (1500m or more) intermediate or senior medal

    Senior - Open to all

Road races do not count towards the XC and as such are a separate issue

If you won medals years ago you can apply to have your grading re assessed

    Thanks Ecoli

It would have been 20 years ago in Juniors and county novice that I have medals from. That would make me available for Munster and National novice races still.

    Cheers for the responses.

There is an intermediates Cross-Country in Adamstown, Co. Wexford, so I might make my XC debut here!

Although it's the day after the IMRA's PowerRidge! :o

Would my normal road-runners do it, or should I really invest in something different? If I could get a pair that would do the mountain running and XC, I'd be happy out!

If you don't have a pair of spikes and the course is on all grass, try running barefoot.
