Ireland Squad for Autumn Internationals

    Squad :-

    Ireland squad (v South Africa, Samoa, New Zealand and Argentina): R Best, I Boss, T Bowe, T Buckley, T Court, S Cronin, G D'Arcy, G Duffy, K Earls, S Ferris, S Horgan, J Hayes, C Healy, J Heaslip, M Horan, R Kearney, D Leamy, J Muldoon, J Murphy, D O'Callaghan, R O'Gara, S O'Brien, B O'Driscoll, M O'Driscoll, E Reddan, M Ross, D Ryan, J Sexton, P Stringer, D Toner, A Trimble, D Varley, D Wallace, P Wallace.

Presume that Flannery & Fitzgerald come into the equation as expected. Wouldn't rule out G. Murphy.

Anyone else think there is actually a reasonable amount of strength in depth ?

Taking a three-quarter line of Bowe, D'Arcy, O'Driscoll, Earls, Kearney that leaves Fitzgerald, G. Murphy, Shane Horgan, Trimble out of a gig - all of whom are quality players. I feel a bit bad for not mentioning Paddy Wallace in the same breath. Genuine options at half-back as well.

Tight-head prop looks a lot more comforting with Buckley & Ross making good progress.

Still good competition at Loosehead and Hooker. Savage competition in the backrow (start Wallace, Heaslip, Ferris and you are leaving out Leamy, O'Brien plus more).

In the absence of a fit Paul O'Connell the weakest area in term of individual units is second-row.

I personally think that Ferris should be tried at 4 during the series with a view to getting as many of our true impact forwards on the pitch as possible. He looks to me like he could be a serious option, with a Martin Johnson/Brad Thorne sort of mix to him. And there are good options at 6.

I reckon Murphy is out because of the Aviva Premiership refusing to let players out for training camps outside the IRB windows. I wouldn't rule out a call up if Fitzgerald fails to return from injury.

I would expect to see Leo Cullen being called up as well.

In one of thornleys pieces he mentioned Murphy coming into the squad after the SA match.
