It is a pity that with such an interest in these two fighters in Ireland that the fight is being noted for Madison Sq. Gardens. Is there a reason why the O2 couldn't be an option?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 855 ✭✭✭smokin ace

    yes whay not the o2

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 118 ✭✭bamboozler

yeah great point, if this fight was brought to O2 i's be bookin my time off work and gettin my tickets straightaway.

the biggest fight between two irish fighters in a a long while should really be be in Ireland

i wish i could afford but cant, so i wont bother deluding myself which such an activity. 20 euro bus or 50 euro flights to dublin and only needin 2 days off work is lot more workable :(

on the fight cant itself cant see duddy winning only unless he puts pressure and catches him with something late

Yeah it's a great pity the fight is not in Ireland. Perhaps it's simply a case of more money is on the table to host it over there?
As to the outcome of the fight, it will a be one-sided contest- it has to be if Lee is to have any chance of fighting for a world title.

Its pretty obvious to me and anyone who can see through the boxing politics and favouritism whats going on right now concerning irish middles and the EBU title.
Lee wasnt getting a sniff at the title while a certain someone was holding it or wanted a certain fight.

I feel sorry for Lee and his fans who wont get to see his fights in Ireland for a long time but he did what peters asked him to and won his fights in limerick to get ranked and was pushed down the pecking order to accommodate a 2nd shot at the title for someone who didnt want an World Title eliminator but rather take a backward step.

Oh well there is other choices for the Limerick Lad and the Duddy fight is a very nice one with a Number 8 WBC ranking in it for him should he win.

I will be going to book my tickets and cheap hotel as soon as it gets announced but i feel for the people who cant make it with me but you can always watch the European Champion prove his greatness against the opponents he knocks over courtesy of Frank Warren.;)

This fight has no business taking place outside of Ireland.

Assuming there are no cuts (with Duddy that's a distinct possibility), after six rounds I would expect Lee to be 60-54 in front. However, especially if it's a 12 rounder, the later the fight goes the more Lee's advantages disappear. He doesn't have good stamina and that's something Duddy doesn't lack.

In a 12 rounder Lee will probably lose 3 or 4 of the later rounds and have people harping on about "if only the fight was longer" and Duddy certainly has the heart to keep the pressure on.

So by the end (even if it's 10) I would expect Lee to be under severe pressure, but still have enough wherewithal to withstand Duddy's more predictable assaults and hang on for a UD.

so in other words you don't view Lee as a title contender, because of his stamina issues. if he's going to struggle against a game, but, let's be honest, limited fighter, what chance has he against a top opponent?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,430 ✭✭✭megadodge

    Exactly.

His stamina is poor and with it goes any durability he has, which I don't think is top-notch either.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 534 ✭✭✭Benny Lava

I agree with megadodge on the stamina issue.

Perhaps he'll survive Duddy's late round assaults but I don't think it would be the same scenario if he was fighting Pavlik or any world class fighter.

Macklins on another level to duddy and lee but i feel he is treading water at best with these oppos. No-one like Warren to time a world title fight for one of his fighters although Mack has been ready for over a year now.

Duddy-Lee is a good fight. The winner would deserve a crack at Macklin and hopefully he will have a world title by then.

Another scenario is have Lee fight Barker for the vacant euro title. Win or lose vs Duddy im sure he could have that fight.

If Macklin beats Varon in December, he is looking get a world title shot against Sturm in 2011.

Yeah its just that he has been knockin on the door for a year now and with all due respect to Varon i expect this defence to be more one sided than his last. Its hard to top punching someone upside down though isnt it :D

Macklin is not a world class mate, he is just a little bit better than john duddy.
Amin Asakainen flattered macklin because of his glass jaw.

Macklin wont win in his likely world title shot next year because he is lacking in so many areas.
Id pick sylvester to jab the crap out of him too and he is the worst of them title holders.

Andy lee is the only middle winning world titles out of Duddy, macklin and Lee.

Lee would win in my opinion.

The fight is taking place in the states because Duddy is a name there. This fight isn't about a best of Irish or whatever spin they try to put on it, it's about Lee beating up someone the US audience recognises. To stage it in Ireland pretty much defeats the purpose.

Macklin is in his prime right now imo. Duddy has seen slightly better days and Lee has yet to reach his potential. At the moment Macklin is defo the pick of the bunch, he's accomplished more and is a more rounded fighter than his 2 irish rivals. I think Lee can win a title down the line at some point but right now Mack the knife is our best bet. He beats sylvester imo. He's shown enough to earn his shot. Duddy and Lee havent (but again.. Lee on the up, Duddy needing to prove he's still relevant)

I think Macklin is definitely going to be the first man to get a title crack but Lee has the greater potential, has to work harder on his stamina and jaysus some one teach him how to lock up with his opponent, but a true boxer all the way

Ricardo Mayorga is back in the mix. I reckon the lads should chance their arm. He is a name fighter who has seen better days and has been out of action for quite some time. Guys like that wont be around forever so they should take their chances while its there.
Duddy-Mayorga would be an absolute tear up, can ya imagine it.
