I have an 08 IS250 automatic with 40K Kms on clock.

Last week a check VSC warning light came on, dealer advised this was caused by a failed oxygen sensor in exhaust system. It is being replaced under warranty.

Is sensor failure a known problem with Lexus and can it occur regardless of mileage on car.

If car was outside warranty the part alone costs approx €200.

Lad at work has an IS200 2002 reg I think, his just went too, part was over €300 I think, he is trying to source a cheaper one. 40k kms is very early for one to fail, they're not a consumable really, not an unusual fault but not very common either.

That sounds wrong; vsc is the stability control.

engine light comes on with it obviously too i would say like all cars with vsc when engine has a fault it puts a communication code up in vsc because the vsc cant rely on engine management..common fault by the way with is250 count yourself lucky you dont have a is 220d as lets just say fixing them at the moment is getting expensive....
