    Hi all,
I'm playing the saxophone for around 2 years now and I'm gigging quite regularily now.
I'm self thought (I'd a good foundation in the clarinet), so I'm quite green when it come to the wide world of saxophones.
I'm playing a student model sax that i bought new around 3 years ago for around 300 quid, but now i'm, thinking of upgrading.....where do i go from here?

If anyone has any advice, i'd really appreciate it!
    regards,
    Louis

I'd go for Yamaha or Yanigasawa. I have a Yani alto and a Yamaha tenor. I have also played Selmer altos and tenors. While I find the Selmers make a really nice tone they are harder work than the Yamahas/Yanis. If you're looking for somethiing more free blowing I'd go for either of these Brands.

One sax to avoid is the Trevor James sax. They fall are very sharp and fall to pieces very quickly. I have about 14 sax students who play on these and most of them have had problems with theirs (in particular the altos)

If your in Dublin you could/should go in to Paul Ryan music : http://www.paulryanmusic.com/ and have a talk with him. He's pretty good with the advice.
Also you should sign up here : http://forum.saxontheweb.net/forum.php and ask them for advice. Lot's of very knowledgeable people there that will offer you plenty of advice. As mentioned above the Yamaha is a good bet, but worth asking a few people first!
