    Folks,

I will be heading to Limerick for the Aussie v Ireland on Saturday week and I was wondering where would you recommend the best place in Limerick is for a good carvey lunch on arrival. I heard good reviews of MJ Finnegans pub on I think its the Castleroy road. I am driving down from Dublin.

yes, they do a good carvery there, Its when you take the first exit for Limerick city/newport. Its on your left hand side after the roundabout, Probably your best bet if you don't know town really well. After it then you can get back on to the motorway, go through the tunnell, 1:80 euro and take the exit to Caherdavin, you will come close to the gaelic grounds then.

Smyths on Denmark St in the city centre or the Greenhills hotel would be my favourites, Russells is very good as well.

id reccomend the greenhills carvery too, but on that day it would most likely be packed as its only up the road from the gaelic grounds.

Synotts (o'connells) in Newtown Annacotty do a great carvery. It's just off the Dublin road too. Our office go there every Friday and have yet to be disappointed.

Smyths on denmark street is gone to the dogs the last few months - must be a new chef or something. Kilmurrey lodge now gets my vote- since I defected from smyths anyway

Smyths has definitely the best chef in town...was in there on Monday while waiting for car in the garage and had the Steak & Mushroom pie..christ it was gorgeous, now I'm back in work eating from the canteen :(

Smyths - was there about 6 months ago, and even as carvery goes it was VERY unappealing. If you're going to go into town go to a restaurant, or even fast food would be as nutritious (and tastier) as most carvery.

Finnegans do not do Carvery but table service. Good food and thank god their prices came down a bit.

Perfect for somebody coming in from the Dublin direction although synotts would be good as well. A nice steak in advance and you can get a park and ride from Synotts to Thomond Park as well so you can leave the car and not have to worry about trying to find a space miles away and walking.

Clohessy's Sinbin is always pretty good.
I've never got a bad meal there.

I'd recommend the Greenhills (mainly due to its location.) The last time I was there the food was nice and considering you're coming from Dublin, the Greenhills is nicely located just off the toll plaza for the tunnel (follow the signs for Shannon/Galway as you approach Limerick and once thru the tunnel take the Caherdavin exit).

The Kilmurray in Castletroy do a really good carvery, huge portions. I eat there a few times a week. Definitely the best in the area.

Finnegans don't do carvery and the chef in Synotts is very annoying.
