A cat and a labrador

Myself and my husband have a beautiful seven month old chocolate labrador. She is fantastic, and we love her to bits.

We also love cats, and have been considering getting one. I grew up with cats and love them. I know people who have cats and dogs successfully and it works. On the other hand, my parents had a cat and a jack russell who never got on. I really don't want that.

Does anybody have any pointers as to making it work? Roxie (our lab) would make friends with a wall, and is curious about cats. I intend to adopt a cat that's good with dogs, or a kitten who will get used to her.

Is there anything else I should be thinking of?
