Seat beat light won't turn off?

I have an 01 Opel Astra and for some reason the seatbelt warning light won't turn off on the dash. It comes on when the engine is started as normal, goes off for a second (as normal) and comes back on again and stays on. Anyone have an idea why this could be so? Have found nothing to suggest the problem in the manual. Thanks

Is it for the driver or passenger seat? Could be something on the passenger seat triggering it.

In the older Astra model, it seems to be just one seat beat warning light for all seat belts. The passenger seatbelt is fine though. It usually turns off instantly after the engine is turned on but for some reason its coming back on and staying on for the duration that the engine is on. A mystery!

So I worked out that the warning light was not the seatbelt light...but is infact the airbag light. The manual said that if the light remains on, it could be a fault with the airbag settings and would require diagnostics to solve the problem? Anyone know if I would have to go to a main opel dealership to solve this problem or could my ordinary garage man do it? Happen to anyone else? :)

Check out the wiring under the passenger seat.

There's usually a sensor under the passenger seat to tell the airbag whether or not to explode (no fun exploding if there's no passenger there to get it in the face). As you rack the seat back and forth, the wiring sometimes gets damaged, and then the light comes on.

Thanks Zubeneschamali, I'll check that out today. Would rather fix the problem myself than get robbed at the dealership!
