While Tor may make it much more difficult (but not 100% impossible) to identify the user it does open up an issue of security. Unless you use end to end encryption in your traffic, an exit point operator, or any link that uses a less-than-secure wifi link, will open your traffic up to sniffing.

For example: if I want usernames and passwords for email accounts but I really dont care where the person lives? Set myself up as an exit point for the Tor proxy network and start recording all the data that passes through , filtering for email user/pass combinations

Assume your traffic is being sniffed at the exit point.
Take all the precautions that the TOR project tell you to.
It does the job, but it's very slow.

I used to use Tor, but there were peaks and valleys in traffic, and during the peak times it would be sluggish and on some sites I would get timed out. There are other ways to skip that are more secure.
