Writing a book on my favourite music - is it a good idea?

    I am writing a book that will be centered around all my favourite music artists. In the book I will talk about why I think they are so successful, popular, whatever.
    I plan to have about 15 entries, this will consist of;
    5 Pop Artists
    5 Rock Artists
    5 Folk Singers
    Each one will have about 15-20 pages written about why I am a fan.
    So far I have done the first 8 pages on Girl's Aloud.
    Does anyone think this would be a good idea for a book? Do I need to have a degree in creative writing? I'm a 6th year student doing my Leaving Cert. Any other tips.
    Thanks to all

    Quite simply, a book can be written about anything if its written well enough. Nick Hornby wrote 31 Songs, which is basically a series of essays in which he details 31 of his own personal, favourite contemporary tracks.

    However, he is an established author; this affords him certain licence to be self-indulgent. People mightn't be as receptive to an unknown author's analysis of their favourite music, unless you have some kind of history in music journalism.

    That said, if the writing style is particularly unique/entertaining/insightful, theres no reason why it couldn't work. Maybe you should try posting a sample for critique?

    Thanks for the reply.
    I would like to get involved in music journalism somehow but I never know how to go about it.
    I would post passages from the book up here, but I don't want my idea's stolen unless I can copyright my writing somehow.
