Dreambox is a manufacture of satellite decoder boxes, there are a lot of different versions, some HD, some not, a lot of them are linux based and can have different types of tuner cards installed, either satellite, cable or terrestrial.

You can get all kinds of software installed on it that may all you do thinks to get around some legal issues, think bittorrent is not illegal, using it to illegal download stuff is

Officially, they are a rather expensive linux based FTA box that can stream live FTA TV over your home network. Indeed I use my dreambox this way and I find it great to be able to watch broadcast quality live TV anywhere in the house without wires.
