Exams at DCU

As a potential student for next year, I just have a question about exams at DCU. A friend of mine is studying over in UCD and apparently they have exams half way through each semester as well as at Christmas and the end of the year. I've been told that these exams count towards getting your degree or not in UCD. I'm curious if this is the same in DCU. Or does it depend on what course you do?

    Thanks in advance :).

Exams in DCU take place in Jamuary and May. Some modules may have class tests and continuous assessment. All of these will contribute to your final grade at the end of each year, which will, in turn, determine whether you pass the course and get a degree or not.

Thanks for the reply :). So, how much percentage would class tests count for? Would they be a big part of the final grade?

It could be anything. I have classes where continuous assessment makes up 50% of my grade and others in which it makes up 20%. Totally depends on the module.

If you look up the page for the course on the DCU site there should be information on the modules in that course. Think they show the marking schemes for modules there too.

In the module I'm doing at the moment, my class tests and assignments account for 30%. A friend of mine who recently graduated had no exams (at least for one year!), so all of her tests an assignments made up 100% of that module.

One thing you can do is contact the head of the course and explain that you're interested in taking the course, but would like a breakdown. From my experience lecturers have always been very helpful in explaining things like this. And as Attol said, there should be details on the DCU website.

Depends on the course, there will be info on the website to find how much exams you have.

In first year I had no exams, all assignments, this year I have one or two, rest is assignments

If you have any queries come along to our Open Day on the 19th and 20th November and ask the students doing the course(s) you are interested in taking to explain how the exams/continuous assessments work for their course. It gives you a chance to get an insight. Also go to talks relating to your choices as they are also very insightful.
