Pink/yellow based foundation?

    Hi everyone,

From the get go I know that this will probably sound like a stupid question but I rarely wear make up so . I was just wondering if anyone could give examples of a "pink-based" foundation. I was told a pink based foundation would be most suited to my skin tone. Is there any way to tell by looking at foundations in the store, e.g. any names/shades which are counted "pink based".

    Hey OP,

Elizabeth Arden does a nice foundation compact that is pink toned I used to use it all the time in "Porcelain beige" I must get some again :)

Bobbi brown & mac nc are yellow based foundations.
I prefer yellow based as it evens out any redness in skintone but that may not be a problem for you.

My skin tone can't take yellow foundations at all - it just looks wrong (spent a lot of money on 'wrong' shades before I found some that I can use).

I've found that L'Oreal have a 'beige rose' and Maybelline a 'fawn' (dream matte mousee) suit my colouring best. Most shades with 'porcelain' in the name tend to be pink-ish based, too.

Pink/yellow-based foundations are the difference between warm and cool as far as I know. Cool being pink. Lots of Irish people suit a cool tone, so you're not alone anyway.
If you're going to a make-up counter it should be OK since they can help match you up, but if you're looking for a foundation in somewhere like Boots it might be more difficult. If you're really pale, Revlon Colorstay in Ivory would be lovely. If not, don't look at the rest of the Colorstay range because it's otherwise fairly yellow-based. L'Oreal have the True Match range and they have it divided into cool and warm tones. I find Bourjois foundations do OK pink-based shades. Max Factor have pink-based shades, like Lasting Performance in Pastelle, but Max Factor foundations are, in my opinion, crap.

interesting, i hadnt heard about pink/yellow tones at the moment. the two foundations i have at the moment atr Mac NC25 and maybelline liquid mineral [which i think is more of a pink one].

slightly off topic question - even when i wear foundation/concealer/powder, i alwayssss end up with my face bright pink on a night out!!
i do have naturally rosy cheeks, but i don't have a problem with blushing, and once im out and have a drink or a dance i look like i've been working out in th gym for hours when other girls appear to have been standing in a perfectly cool breeze all night! any suggestions on how to combat this?

i know green is supposed to cancel out red tones, and i remember my sister used to have some green moisturiser which was supposed to eliminate redness when rubbed in..but i can't remember what it was. [or if it was just a gimmick]
    any advice welcome!

no7 have some green moisturizing stuff in their range that seems to be pretty popular.

Light Pink is one of our lightest supplements. It can be blended with any of the others to create the right tint for you. This one is suited to people with pale or pink complexions. It’s made with soya and rice bran oils to care for all skin types. Just mix into your favourite moisturiser for a natural tint or use on its own as a foundation. You can also dot a little around unsightly blemishes for effective coverage.

The Lush ones are good, but for anyone with really pale skin, they're actually too dark.
I tried the pale yellow and pale pink ones and both were too dark for me.

For people familiar with MAC, if your skin is too light for NC15, then the Lush stuff will be too dark for you.

If you diluted the foundation with moisturiser, it might be slightly lighter.

Try a primer before you apply your foundation / concealer to help set it.
Use powder on top of your foundation.
You could try something like Benefit's Dr Feelgood over your makeup to help mattify it and keep it in place all night.
And perhaps bring some oil-absorbing sheets in your purse. I had some before and they're excellent for getting rid of excess oil or any moisture on your face. Very simple to use as well.

Oh and this might sound weird, but you could also try closing your eyes and applying a thin layer of hairspray to your face to keep your make-up on longer.
It does work! Obviously, hold the can a fair distance away from your face so you're not spraying tons of it on yourself, you just need a very light mist for it to work.

I mix the lush pale yellow with the dream cream moisturiser and found it works well and is pale enough.

Clinique Superfit's lightest shades are pinkish. I use Petal (03).

I'm exactly like you, I wear fake tan on and off so I have several different foundation colours. I think most foundations look like either milky coffee of milky tea, I have to wear something to complement my pinky skin so I choose coffee colours! (God I sound like a lunatic)
I also use fawn when I'm tanned, I think maybelline in general are good enough for having both yellow and pink shades, you just really have to test loads of stuff out on your hands to see if they go on yellow I think.
