Put €10 in the car last night and the needle on the dashboard never moved .

This is unusual as it usually moves up just under 1/4 full.

The warning light was on and remains on .

How can I fix the petrol gauge needle ?

Maybe worth filling up the tank to full as the the gauge in tank maybe stuck.
worth a go before you go ripping out the fuel gauge..the clusters can also give trouble in the 206's.

The reserve in the 206 is around 8 litres, given that a litre of fuel costs €1.30 or more your €10 would have purchased 7.7 litres so may not have moved your gauge out of the fuel light on area. Fill the tank and see.

Just put another € 20 into the tank and the needle has moved above half-way.

It must have been stuck and obviously a tenner get you nowhere anyway.

Phew - Thanks everyone , If we had gone to a mechanic , it would have cost at least €50 to find out there is nothing wrong .

Often happens me, yet another beautiful perk of owning a 206.

use dto happen in my 307 too if you let the tank go to the minimum you needed a good dash of juice to get the needle moving again,

Her MINI, if you fill it to the brim, gets a little confused and decides to display zero for the tank until you burn off some juice, turn off and turn on again.

I've always believed in the internet rumour / urban myth that doing a lot of driving with petrol at a low low level is not good for your fuel pump.
I had to rally a car around a part of north cork early one morning to get somewhere on time. It was running on fumes by the time I stopped I'd say. Fuel pump calved the next week. Proof? Coincidence? Par for the course on neglected 155k miler, 12year old car (original fuel filter most likely)?

my 77 beemer manual says " the worm drive fuel pump will be irrivocacly damaged if you operate it with out fuel"

since its worked well for 33 years and neither me nopr the other owner let it run dry i'd say there is some logic there
