Making a mask

    I've never really made anything before so I've no idea where to start really.

    I'm trying to make a deadmau5 mask for my friend for halloween (it's his birthday too). It looks like this

    I've found a few walkthroughs etc online so I've got an idea of what to do but I don't really know where to get anything.

    Could anyone tell me where I could get a ~17" globe/sphere thing? That seems to be the hardest bit really.

    Could you get a globe lampshade somewhere?

    I make masks and if I was making the one shown I would try to find a bowl roughly half the size of the sphere and build two pieces around it and join them together. Failing that I would get one of those annoying balloons that people put rice in and bounce on a piece of elastic :mad:
    I'd inflate it to the proper size and build around that.

    What medium are you making the mask from?

    You could use a large beachball and do papier mache around it leaving one side of it uncovered, do it like a bowl shape (strips of newspaper soaked in water/ pva glue mixed in equal amounts about 7 layers). When its hardened you could then burst the ball or let the air out of it (leave the valve visible where you are not putting the layers of paper). The result is you are left with a hollow ball.
