What do you guys think, go for the new Debian version or stick with the Ubuntu base? Rolling release sounds better than reinstalling every 6 months!
I think I prefer the artwork of Isadora over the new mac-ish look of Julia, but I shall download it anyway cos it's great.

I've gone for both; LMDE base with the new Mint 10 looks from the Romeo repo + a few packages from gloria and I like what i'm left with. :)

ps a little bit of work to find the missing backgrounds and fix up the grub2 & gdm3 themes, if anyone wants help let me know.

Also there's a way to get the Mint boot animation (among others) on LMDE by installing Plymouth:

    This thread (http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=141&p=320585#p321801)
on the Mint forums has this link (but the actual mint theme is down):

The backgrounds are in package manager, just search for "mint" and go down the list, the Shiki Wise theme is too "shiki-wise" I think.

I like the idea of a rolling release, but how easy is it to switch from an existing Xubuntu installation to the mint version based on Debian?

Thanks i'll have a read, I wasn't that bothered so far about getting the boot animation running as the text boot up kinda grew on me whereas the mint 9 themed grub2 and gdm screens really clashed with the new style.

I couldn't find the new mint 10 backgrounds in the existing repos. I found the package in the julia repo: mint-backgrounds-julia. The icons, theme I used are in the packages mint-x-icons and mint-x-theme respectively - "A mint/metal theme based on mintified versions of Clearlooks Revamp, Elementary and Faenza."

Good question, i'm not sure if it's even possible to do easily. Someone may be able to advise you(or may have done it) in the LMDE forum: http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewforum.php?f=141
