Now that Hallmark has changed name to Universal they have a blank channel on 799 called Hallmark. Is this there way of getting around the "you are not subscribed" message?! by tricking the box into thinking you are still subscribed to hallmark.

There is nothing there it is just a blank.

I think the idea is to keep the Hallmark name in the EPG so people's recordings will still work.
There is only one channel it changed its name.

When a channel changes its name on UPC old recordings off that channel no longer play.
This is to fool the box into thinking the channel is still there so old recordings off Hallmark will still play.

    Understand?

Yeah I understand it all, just think its such an arseways way of doing it. If they where to do that for every channel that changed name, we could 10 blank channels by this time next year.

I have not got anything recorded on hallmark so I'm not able to test it. Does anyone here have any hallmark recordings?

To be fair channels dont change names that often, and Id imagine they wont be keeping the blank ones there indefinately either. Long enough to allow people to watch their recordings I would suspect.

This is very annoying that it can't be fixed as Channels will be rebranded in the future for example...

Discovery Knowledge is changing to Discovery History on Mon 7th Nov

Next year these channels are changing their names...

Living is changing to Sky Living
Playhouse Disney is changing to Disney Junior

    Add the following tidy ups:

794: CNBC - Now CNBC Europe
    795: FilmFour +1 - Now FILMFOUR +1
    796: E4 +1 - Now E4+1 (No Space)
797: National Geographic - Now Nat Geo HD
798: Attheraces - Now At The Races

To be fair to UPC, I really think people are just looking for something to complain about now (no I'm not talking about everyone in the thread!).

Yes it's stupid how the system works, but lets not forget, Sky ALSO works that way (if I'm not mistaken), and doesn't have a mechanism to deal with it (again, if I'm not mistaken).

So the software/hardware can't accommodate the changes. Big deal. At the end of the day UPC have found a solution, that to the end-user, causes no inconvenience, other than adding a few redundant listings in the guide.

At least it shows they are thinking of the customer, even if not the software :P
