    Hi,

I have Free To Air Satellite and I'm thinking of installing a arial for getting the Irish Channels. Is there any point in installing the arial? Will I get RTE next month on Free To Air Satellite or will it ever come up on Free To Air Satellite.
    Thanks in Advance.

    Beng.

Definitely not. And it will be on a different satellite to the Sky/UK channels so you'll need a special dish or put up a second smaller dish. That Saorsat service will be running in 2012 if all goes to plan.

    2011 not 2012

    see http://www.techtir.ie/saortv/saorsat
    and
    http://www.techtir.ie/isaa/saorsat/preliminary

You need a Freesat HD box with a Diseqc switch to get both services.

There is no TV3 right now as the 31st October isn't Full Public Launch, but a Technical Launch. http://www.techtir.ie/saortv and http://www.techtir.ie/saortv/saorview

    Perhaps from April 2011

    2nd dish to add-on Saorsat

    Only 44cm and no arm

    OR ...

    Multifeed with Sky/Freesat, Astra 19, Hotbird 13 and 9E Ka-Sat for Saorview
    127682.jpg
80cm Triax suitable for reception of Sky Eurobird channels in rain.

With suitable LNBs you can drive Freesat HD box via Diseqc for Freesat, Astra 19, Hotbird 13E, Saorsat (Ka-Sat 9E) and have Sky pay TV also.

watty, would you feel confident that RTÉ will have the saorsat system up and running in 2011 even if the satellite launches as planned?

RTÉ's Conor Hayes said last July
We anticipate that the Saorsat satellite service will be available from the second quarter of 2011. We are taking advantage of a new form of technology that operates in much the same way as UHF and VHF, with which members will be familiar. We will operate in a different frequency band on this satellite to allow us to broadcast unencrypted. A spot is being dedicated exclusively to Ireland.

A quote from Conor Hayes wouldn't inspire me with confidence in the face of ongoing funding shortages for RTÉ and the fact that this is a entirely new method of transmission for the broadcaster.

My 2012 suggestion was a conservative hunch and whether it launches in 2011 or 2012, it should still be available in 2012 in any case. I'll be delighted if Saorsat is at all available during 2011.

I'd suspect if not running by 2011 it will be 2014
