Moving threads to 'Games'

    Hi,

Can a mod clear this up for me please. Can we not discuss any game in here in future or will it just be moved to the 'Games' section?

Only problem I have with it really is that by talking about a game on the PS3 section, I can see who will be online and can arrange multiplayer games with. I think that might get lost on the 'Games' section as it's mostly PC news and any new thread will get quickly swallowed.

    Just wondering anyway,

    Thanks.

EDIT: Woops, just saw announcement about the move. Well I still think it's not the best idea but just my 2 cents :)

I've just noticed all this now. So, so silly.

Was discussed in detail here. General consensus seemed to be that debate over individual games was being split over multiple forums, hence damaging the games cat in general.

Personally, I'm glad to see the change, as it was often tricky to decide where exactly to post (I'm obliged to say here :P) on a given game. Ultimately, the decision was made in order to create a clearer distinction about what belongs where. It's sad losing the Demon's Souls thread, but at the same time one New Vegas thread as opposed to four or five is welcome IMO!

If you have any objections, feel free to post in the thread linked above, your feedback will be heard :) It is a trial of sorts at the moment, and there does seem to be some users objecting. For the moment though, yes, the Playstation forum will be mostly dedicated to technical and PSN issues!

Feedback left on other forum, thanks. Like a riot of gaming nerds over there haha

I can understand I with multiplatformers... sort of. And the idea of having the threads about the same noob PS3 technical problems away from my face everyday is great. But all I can see is problems. If, over the next few weeks, it looks all tidy like:

    >Mass Effect
    >Demon's Souls (PS3 exclusive)
    >FIFA 11
    >Alan Wake (Xbox 360 Exclusive)

... Etc and no junk in between, I'd be down with it.

I'll flag this thread for the C-Mods as well, as I said if you object make sure to raise said objection! We'll only get to an acceptable conclusion through feedback.

It definitely will take a while to adjust, and the main forum may be messy for a while, but hopefully the end result will be a busier and more focused games category.

Yeah, it's cool, I posted it over on the there thread.

    Oh god,please be tidy.

Ok while I don't agree with the new process, Playstation specific threads have been moved to the Games section eg... uncharted, gran turismo, and Killzone 3. These are not "multi-platform releases" so why have they been moved

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,616 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

A lot of people seem unhappy with the change.
Damned if you do, damned if you don't. :)

I think a happy medium would be to move platform-exclusive games back to their original forums. Swamped in work at the moment, so I'll review everyone's comments tonight.

Why are platform exclusive games being moved?

If this is gonna happen, then I highly second the matchmaking sub forum. Like, could you start a topic called Black Ops and people just discuss playing online or getting games together?

Where exactly is this main " Games forum" to which all the threads will be moved to? Can someone post a link to this new forum?

Ive noticed as well that ill be talking about a game on the PS3 in the games section but it gets lost inbetween all the PC version talk of Mods and glitches and problems that have no impact on the PS3 version.

Plus PC gamers are a law onto themselves i dont like to mix with them too often :D

I'm both myself but my wallet can't keep up with the yearly hardware changes needed to play the newest games so I'm sticking with PS3 for now.

Said perfectly above "PC gamers are a law unto themselves" haha.

I can see insta-flame wars starting up when PC, PS3 and Xbox owners are discussing 1 game in 1 thread and someone says "well xbox has the superior version" haha. I think it will be interesting anyway, much bigger threads but im gonna miss the PS3 forum

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,347 ✭✭✭✭Grayditch

You cant have multiplatform titles threads ... and general discussion threads about games or things related to games, mixed together. The way it looks now, ugh. Horrible.

The titles alone will be hard to manage, like.

It wouldn't be too bad if the title threads had all the systems listed after it. Kinda what I was saying earlier.

Medal Of Honour (Pc, Xbox 360, PS3)
    Dc Online Universe (Pc, Ps3)
    Halo Reach (Xbox 360)

Then we have Wii and PS2 games. They're usually called the same thing, but are not the same game. That could get messy.

Putting all the exclusives back? They'll all be mixed with the millions of annoying Tech Problem threads (annoying because the same ones pop up every day)

As someone else was saying mixing
Pc users in talking about modding could be a problem or Ps3 or 360 users talking about exclusive content within a game.

I'd happily put up with this if I didn't have to sift through non-title threads.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,347 ✭✭✭✭Grayditch

The support/discussions on each game could be potentially a lot better with more opinions and help etc.

There will be so much "Problem? Should have to gotten it on (insert platform here) lol", though. Oh well.

I personally prefer the way it's going, games discussed in the Games forum.
If needed, we can use prefixes for exclusives only. ie [Playstation] Demon's Souls.
Any non-exclusives with prefixes are merged with main thread.

Yeah that sounds fine. Do you know if it will be titles only, or will there still be threads like :

Gamer Expo - Irish Gaming Expo

Top Ten Games - ALL time, ALL platforms

    Getting back into Gaming...

Microsoft Spending Half a Billion on Kinect Launch

    ?

I've nothing against these threads, I'd be into posting in them or whatever, in a different section, but alongside what I foresee to be LOADS of titles threads, I can tell you right now, ÜBERMESS.

Never happened before. If it does happen report the posts and I'll sort it out. Fanboyism isn't tolerated anywhere.

Just ignore the mod threads? PC, PS3 and 360 people are all playing the same game anyway, why not have a bit more diversity in the conversation. I know that's what I'd prefer.

These threads are fine. Unless it's tech related or platform specific matchmaking threads then fire away with anything you want.

Those threads are going to be running alongside Title threads?

Well usually the game mods come way after a game is launched, like a few months afterwards. Any intial thread on the games release willhave died down a bit so a seperated thread on mods to the game should be created.

I don't know why some many console users are afraid of PC users. We're all playing the same game and there's no need to get upset when they say they have the superior version because it is kind of true (better controls, much better graphics and modability).

How so? They all fit into the general gaming discussion bracket? Before the console forums were created these threads were in the games forum all the time and there was nothing wrong. In every other forum these types of threads are in the general games discussion forums as well. We can't just be discussing single franchises and games. There's plenty more out there like gaming news, it's affect of society, any big expos etc. They belong in the forum and they aren't cluttering it.

? I'm not afraid of them at all, I mentioned in the same breath, that console exclusive content talk could get confusing. I don't really care, I was just pointing out how it could pose a problem. I think we know what HUGE problem I have now.

Sorry wasn't meant to be offensive to you but more a statement that some console users jump down PC users throats on occasion fordaring to suggest the PC version is better. Not aimed at you at all. Anyway if you have genuine problems with a PC user being arrogant report them because fanboyism isn't tolerated. Anyway before the mods start coming which takes weeks upon weeks then everyone is playing the same game. There's no difference other than graphics and input device. Mod talk should be it's own thread and multiplayer matchmaking put in the console specific forum. PC matchmaking is just sign up to the boards.ie steam group so no issue there.
    Grayditch wrote: »

So far I've seen only a small increase in how busy the Games forum has gotten and it's nothing unmaneagable at all for us moderators. Now that might change from 5pm onwards and if it does then we'll be quick to move it back but so far I'm not seeing any problems. I've explained a bit more more reasons why it's positive in the other thread on the games forum. This was brought forward to add diversity to conversation whish was really lacking since the console split and stop multiple threads being created on the same game. If it does get too busy we willconsider moving platform exclusives back to the console forums and enforcing moving multiplatform game threads to the games forum which wasn't done when they were created and should have been. Give it a try for the next week or two, but if you want to give us feedback please do, this could turn out bad and if it does we'll get the cmods to talk to the admins about making a change.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,347 ✭✭✭✭Grayditch

Well, I didn't say anything about the talk of versions being better, that minefield will pose it's own problem. Mods and Exclusive DLC can be huge. people talking about The Ballad of Gay Tony add-on for GTA for instance, when it was only on Xbox, could have taken up huge amounts of the thread, but again, I wouldn't care too much about that. I was just bringing it up to think about.

I own nearly all platforms, so putting them all together and REMOVING and talk of Tech Problems is an absolute BONUS for me. But if it's mixed with "cool idea" threads like "wats ur fave game of all time" threads, from EVERY sector of gamers (and there will be SOOOOOO many) More gamers in the same place = more non-game specific threads. Mess. Bummer.

I think a Titles-Only section would be huge alone, as it is.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 52,885 CMod ✭✭✭✭Retr0gamer

Well we'll see how it goes but don't worry if it gets unmanageable your suggestion is a good one. Any stupid threads always seemed to disappear off the main games page very quickly and there wasn't too many of them before the split.

Exclusive DLC would probably be it's own thread and don't see it cluttering it up that much since by the time it comes out the intial games buzz has died down. We'll see how today goes anyway.

I don't know what they're like, but I can imagine having to look to page four for a thread I was on the day before. We'll see I guess. It's more about the eyesore factor and irrelevance from my point of view, that I find these threads to be. A big page of just games....gorgeous. I guess time will tell what it will be like.

Don't worry they'll be moved the **** out of my forum! :) The biggest beef I had a was the tech questions in the console forums bored me to big fat salty tears. These threads have no place in the games general discussion forum and will be moved to the console forums. Report any you see if you find them an eyesore.

You should try following threads you're interested in. It's not that useful for megathreads that are always on the first page but handier for smaller threads.

Well I wouldn't recommend it, filled up my email in box very fast and got annoying. As still getting emails from necro threads years old. Just do it for the smaller interesting threads.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 604 ✭✭✭DemoniK

Just catching up on this now...

On face of it - yeah, I see the frustration of maybe 4 threads discussing the same game - but a lot of the times there's a mixture of general info and platform specific info.. The result will be 5 threads in the gaming forum with 4 discussing platform specific and the other general - and it'll confuse, be disconnected and generally a pain!
Plus I suspect many will get pissed off with the usual "it works on PC" or "it works on PS3" responses that are inevitable..

I had a look over in the new forum - don't like it. first 2 stickies are ok, next 3 are PC specific, not sure why gaming developer is there and not elsewhere... And don't get me started with the the nintendo threads, pc graphics cards, games I don't know of or care about for platforms...
It's going to be hard to identify those threads I do want to get involved in.

At least console issues are being kept seperate.

Time will tell, but honestly - I'll struggle to even spot threads I want to keep an eye on.... I suspect others looking for a quick fix will too

  • Moderators, Education Moderators, Technology & Internet Moderators Posts: 35,158 Mod ✭✭✭✭AlmightyCushion

Reducing the stickies would be a great idea (on any forum not just games). You could get away with a charter and another thread that has one post that links to the other threads which wouldn't be stickied. That would mean more threads for the front page.

This isn't going to happen. There'll be one thread discussing one game. Everyone on every platform is discussing the exact same game so I don't see how there'll be differences other than control input and graphical differences. Fanboyism as always won't be tolerated.

Just ignore the stickies it's not a PC dominated forum. As for nintendo threads, ignore them if you have no interest, same with games you have no interest in. The PC graphics thread was locked becasuse it was off topic from the forum, it's not the place for it.

I'll look into getting rid of outdated stickies like the games development one.
