Job exploitation

    Hello,
I hope I posted this in the correct forum.
Basically my wife got a job in a local b&b in Galway city as a cleaner part time.
The owner asked her on Saturday to try 1.5 hrs unpaid training on Monday.
He kept her for 6.5 hrs, then asked her to come in today said she would be working 7hrs upaid and 8hrs unpaid training(cleaning) tomorrow.
Now my wife has a valid work visa stamp 4,she is from south east Asia and well educated.
I told her to leave today as I feel this is total exploitation as she did the job perfectly yesterday, the mans wife was very happy and now he needs a further 15 hrs unpaid work(training).Personally I believe he would not dare pull this with an Irish employee.
I know jobs are scarce but you have to draw the line sometimes and this was not easy work, your opinions welcome.
    Cheers

Don't have time to go into detail but you could contact the Labour relations commision for advice (LRC).
If she continued to work, for free, my understanding is that her employer would HAVE to back pay her for every day worked including paying PAYE and PRSI.
    Good luck.

Thanks for the reply,We rang NERA and the lady could not believe it.
Called him up and laid the cards on the table,he will pay up but tried to say he had a right to get people to work for him for free.
Beggars belief what cowboys are operating out there.

Did she actually get any "training"?
