Teeth Whitening

I'd like to find out a bit more about teeth whitening; the costs, risks and if it's worth it. I think my teeth could be a bit whiter than they are. I look after them very well, but there still seems to be a kind of off-white complexion to them.

Has anyone had it done? Would you recommend it? Is it worth it?

Heh, I know I've given a lot of ladies some nice milky mouthwash to swig on over the years.

i have heard that the laszer clinics are quite good. there are 2 on grafton street one for 180 eur and the other 170 euro. i dont know how many times you have to go but i heard one visit makes a difference. im thinking about going myself

Bleaching works well for most patients, the at-home type gets better results than the in-surgery "laser " bleaching but requires a bit more effort on your behalf. There are no real risks if done properly but expect some sensitivity. cost varies with each dentist.

It is impossible to say how much you would benefit without seeing you first but go your dentist and talk about it. Many non dentists offer bleaching now but you wouldnt go to the hairdresser if you were sick so why go there to have your teeth treated.

I got my bleecing kit of my local dentist, made up mouth moulds and gave me 8 syringes. One syringe of gel for each week. Was great results, would want to have been for 300euro.

Off topic but does anyone know where I would get more syringes with whitening gel in them? Dont trust ebay

"Laser" whitening is total rubbish, mostly dehydration & camera settings. The "laser" (its a blue light not a laser) is there to trick you into think something is happening. Night guard bleaching is the gold standard. You need good trays that fit very well made by a dentist. You need good bleach thats active. You need a good clean beforehand and to make your you have not cavities (bleaching cavities is very painful). There is also deep bleaching but thats another level altogether.

Avoid beauty places. 300 euro is good value for white teeth, go to a dentist and get it done properly. I wouldn't put any bleach from eBay in my mouth....seriously.

Can anyone recommend a safe teeth whitening gel approx 22% which I can purchase on line as I have the moulds but my dentist is quoting 50.00 per syring for the gel which I find a bit expensive. (I need to use a high concentration gel due to tetracycling staining on my teeth). :)

22% is a high concentration and should only be used under supervision of a dentist. Do you know what you are looking for 22% of ?, is it Hydogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide? (one is good, one is bad), if you buy it on the internet can you be certain what is in the syringe and what will you do if what you buy damages your teeth?. If it does damage your teeth, will you need extensive work to repair teeth?. If dentists just bought any old sh#t off the internet, we could provide treatment a lot cheaper, but if we buy it from a reputable supplier we ensure patient safety and satisfaction, that costs more.

    Old adage, buyer beware.
