iPhone 3GS headphone jack blocked?

    Hi guys,
I tried to plug my earphones into my 3GS this evening (for the first time in a few weeks) and they won't go in! I can get it in about 75% but it won't budge in any further and I don't want to force it. There doesn't seem to be anything stuck in the little jack although it's pretty hard to see anything in there! I've tried other earphones and same problem. I tried wiggling a paper clip in the hole but it's made no difference.

Anyone else have this annoying problem or is it just me?! If so, am I looking at an expensive repair? I did a search and surprisingly, I've not found others reporting a similar problem...

My headphone jack on my 3G done the same, i think after 1 year of popping headphones in and out it got damaged.

I got the headphone jack part on ebay for about €7 and replaced it myself, its quite difficult tho as the silent, volume, power and camera are all on the same ribbon. And to get to the headphone jack in the 1st place means gutting the whole iphone.

I would hope somewhere in Ireland would be doing this service, would imagine it being quite pricey in a repair shop tho.

    Feck it!
There's no way I'd attempt it myself, I'd definitely make things worse. If it turns out to be an expensive repair I may just look at upgrading to the new 4... which I wasn't really intending to do.

Maybe pick up a bluetooth earphone set?

I had the same issue. I couldn't get the headphone jack in and there didnt seem to be anything blocking the port. I claimed a new one back off my insurance policy.

Thanks guys... not good news so.

It's not insured and it's well out of warranty by now. I'm about 16 months into an 18 month contract and I think I qualify for a silver upgrade with 02. Might be cheaper to take that route! Do 02 shops take used 3GS handsets as a "trade in" ?

Three do some kind of trade in.
