    Hi all,

My laptop is prompting me to activate windows and my desk top screen is saying that the copy of windows is not genuine. I get a message saying the key was invalid even though I havent entered one.

Bought my laptop about two years ago and havent seen this message before.

Sorry if I'm not making sense

Thanks in advance for any help!

I just spent the past weekend fixing a similar problem on my cousin's Dell laptop. Try the steps outlined on this webpage:

    http://social.microsoft.com/forums/en-US/genuinevista/thread/fe29298b-9906-4ba5-a0a7-a419d036d671/

The "Step set #1" was the one that worked for me straight away. You may have to try the others, though, if the first one doesn't work for you.

Hope that's some help to you.

*edit* Take careful note of the commands you're typing. In particular, note the spaces in "Step set #1". It's perhaps not instantly noticeable straight away at first glance on that page but there's a space after "cscript", after ".vbs", and also after "/ilc" in the command you're instructed to type. Make sure to just double check all that as you're typing any of he commands on that page.

Thanks a mill ... I'll give it a go and see how I get on. Not the best at this kind of thing!

No of the options seem to work and I made sure I typed everything as it should be.

Thanks for you help. Back to the drawing board for me!
