So ive all but decided my next purchase will be the HTC Desire HD unless the wait is too long in which case il go with Samsung Galaxy S or HTC Desire.

Three are clearly the best value bill pay network so i emailed them regarding when the HTC Desire HD would be available and got this response.

    "
Thanks for your email. It’s great to hear that you are interested in joining the 3Network!

Currently, we are unable to comment on a date for the release of the HTC Desire HD on our network. Updates about the same would be made available on our website (www.three.ie).

You may contact our sales team. They are open from Monday to Friday-09:00 hrs to 20:00 hrs, Saturday- Sunday 09:00 to 18:00 hrs.
    "

    So basically a blow off,

Does anybody have any idea, rumour, calculated guess on when it will be available?
Vodaphone have told me two weeks?

considering how long it took them to release the Desire,

probably not for another few months XD

Also I was talking to a guy in one of the stores... he had a similiar opinion based on how long it took them to put their bloatware on the desire.

Thanks for getting back to me.

I think somebody with a reliable source at 3 recently said it could be a few months yet. :-(

Bloatware is un-necessary software that phone companys stick on phones so that their branding.. or particuliar browser is on a phone... ie something mostly useless with their branding all over it. I'm not sure why it always take's 3 ages to port onto new android phones.

Mmm, but surely the HD will come with 2.2 so that wont really be a problem?

3 should have the Desire HD by mid November at the latest. The hold up for the Desire was a world wide shortage

Perhaps, but a sales guy I spoke to in the outside retail park for three claimed it was because they were having difficulty putting their software on... such as a three browser *shudders*

It may have been complete bull**** to fob me off and cover the shortage... but I doubt it.

What are Three like as a provider?

I want the Desire HD and I currently have a Three mobile interernet but my phone is with O2 but the pissed me off. I was with them 12 years and last year the gave me free o2 to o2 calls, this ran out two months ago and my last couple of bills tripled. They smuggly said they sent a txt and if I sign up for another 12 months they will give it back to me. But I want a smartphone and the htc desire hd looks the business. I just don't know which provied to go with.

Also the desire can act as a wifi access point but is this a seperate charge or included in you data bundle.

IMO Meteor is a good option.

-they are the only network not to put the bloatware on their phone

-this also means you will receive android software updates way sooner (and unmodified) than the other networks

-Bill plans are pretty good value

-The phone itself will most likely be cheaper on Meteor, especially at the entry level tariffs

    - You can get a 12 month contract without being ridden on the price of the phone(three).

-They will probably have the phone out 1st, as they don't need to do testing etc. on it to make sure their bloatware is compatible .

you probably already know, but o2 wont be stocking the desire hd.

I'd also like to add I hate o2,they are the sneakiest network, think they are a rip off and have terrible customer service.:o

The most important question I have is:

Will the original desire drop in price? :)

Hopefully, but I'm guessing it won't. TBH, i think the hd desire has very little to offer over the current Desire...a bigger, lower quality screen maybe!?

It has a more powerful camera (8MP), an updated version of android and a sleeker body I think.

I'm sure it'll sell fairly well regardless.

Screen is a bit too big for my liking, the 3.7" on the original desire is big enough. ;)

yep, but I'd guess the camera isn't much better that the current Desire(which isn't great). HTC don't have a good record for including good cameras in their phones.

It will have the same Android 2.2 froyo the current Desire has, but with an updated skin/ sense UI, which as far as I know, the original Desire will be getting before the end of the year. This will enable it to work with htcsense.com so you can remotely control the phone etc.

Body wise, the new desire HD has a thickness of 11.8mm, versus the current desires 11.9..unnoticeable, but the HD will seem slimmer as it will be wider and longer.

Also not liking the lack of physical buttons on the HD, not a fan of those touch sensitive ones.:)

hey i was thinking of getting a desire on 3 myself but was wondering about the 2.2, having read posts here, the 2.2 is available on 3 right? also, are desires on 3 locked and branded to three? and contain bloat where, planet 3 perhaps? meteor ones are usually unbranded right? how do you find the 3 billpay tariffs? i was thinkin of the 40 a month classic flexi max, with a free internet max addon, so 2gb upto 4gb data is good right? or would i get away with a 1gb allowance(general everyday use, light surfing, facebook etc) on meteor on smart 30/35 and maybe a desire z if they manage to get it in! while ive heard of meteor being dodgy for android devices has any one had any problems on three, as in being unable to use 2g when 3g is unavailable or turned off to save battery life etc....
    questions, questions questions!
but thanks alot if people can help!

I can only assume you have a faulty device, as the camera on mine and a few other desire users I know is great.

Mmm. Where is the best place to pick one up? From their retail store? If so, which one.

Also, you come across as being very sure of yourself for someone with just one post.

Asked one of the reps in three's henry street outlet and was told that they're getting it on 15th Nov at €499 on prepay.

I'm sure becoz i think i have information from a reliable source.

I recently got the HTC desire with 3. I did a lot of research on phones and network providers before deciding. The 1 warning I read again and again about 3 was their shocking customer service. I decided to go with them anyay and Christ was it a costly mistake.

My phone has not made a call since the day it arrived. It has no ability to make calls or connect to internet. It receives calls and sends and receives texts.

All contact with customer service is via a call centre in Aisia (Possibly India from the accents?) It's frustrating and you end up telling multiple people your problem over and over again as they pass you around departments.

Anyway, it took a cumulative 3 hours for them to agree my phone was broken and they agreed to send a new one in 2 to 3 days. It never arrived. 11 Days later I contacted them and they had no record of ordering a replacement for me. So I went through the same **** explaining the same problem to 3 different reps. They agreed to send me the new phone in 2 to 3 days. It never arrived.

In the meantime they had already direct debited my account for my first months "service." I lost my patience with them and demanded this money be returned to me and my contract ceased because of their failure to provide the agreed service. I got a letter saying I would owe 800euro if i ceased contract.

I've currently passed my case to comreg and am awaiting advice.

Sorry this is part frustrated rant but it is also part warning. If you do decide to go with 3 just prey you don't have difficulties. Cause customer service that bad really has to be experienced to be believed. I've read similar complaints on other threads and I wish I had listened.

Some people will always moan no matter what. Setting up the internet on a smart phone isn't rocket science. If you have trouble doing that, then perhaps a Nokia 3210 is for you. Or ask a friend for help.

Best of luck with the ComReg complaint.

Weird, I was told in Liffey Valley last Sunday that they were expecting it from November 22nd. Didn't ask prices. Maybe it has to spiral out from the centre of Dublin.

especially since 3 install all the bloatware etc.. you would expect them to do the settings on it also XD

i got the desire with meteor and hafnt looked back.
1Gb internet compared to 2Gb, right. well i use my wifi for any apps etc im messing with.. so that doesnt touch into it. i actually didnt have broadband for the past 2 weeks and was tethering my phone for pc internet acess and thats the only reason i have used my allowance this month. (i used 300-400Mb the month before i guess)

as for calls texts etc i have most friends on meteor so free calls and texts.
after that its random calls to house phones etc that use my minute allowance, texts to few other friends on other networks, and going over the limit is 5c per txt which isnt bad anyway.
    35 euro a month contract.

what it all boils down to for me i guess is what network your friends are on that you will be using most often.
also my phone is unlocked (though unlocking the desire only costs 20 euro anyway or something +easy code online to get) so i can switch anyway if needs be..

either way i go back to my point about what network your friends are on...
i got a 20 page long bill from meteor last month for some reason showing all my calls and internet usage and everyone of them after it had 0.0000001c and then it all got subtracted at the end anyway. think i had an extra 40cent used somewhere..

I was in a three store last Sunday and the guy there showed me three's internal press release saying that they will be releasing it on the 6th of December. He didn't know anything else about it, not even a price range. Hoping to get mine this week:)

Take a look at the thread about Three getting the original Desire. Different people were told different things constantly. They didn't get the Desire for months, lying to people all along. The 'worldwide shortage' excuse was BS. All of the other operators had it in Ireland at the time.
