    03 Seat Ibiza 1.4.

Engine light started flashing on my way home.

Lifted the bonnet and the engine is shaking when running.

Checked the oil and just below the minimum mark.

Any ideas what could be the problem.

To tell you the truth I can sick of the faults with the car and thinking of moving it on.

If I want to replace the car any advice on getting a 2nd hand without a mechanic.

    Thanks

Are you maintaining the car properly? Did the previous owner(s)? I ask because oil should never be allowed to drop below the minimum. Re the light, you'll need to have the car connected to a diagnostic computer to see what fault brought the light on. If you want to replace the car then find someone who knows about cars to help you, failing that have a mechanic whom you trust look over potential cars for you. Don't ever buy a car that hasn't been cared for, it's a false economy.

It got serviced only 5 months ago.

    Don't even drive 10,000 miles a year

Engine management light and engine "shaking" sounds like it could be a coil-pack gone.

It is best to check oil level after the engine has been switched off for 10 / 15 mins.

    Thanks.

That would be the 4th time it would be gone.

I'd same problem and it was the coil too.
    Cost €50 to get fixed.

Read your op and immediatly thought coil - could you not just get a coil pack from a scrapyard, probably cost you a tenner and takes a minute to fit. Look up one of the seat forums and you will get a guide on how to do it. Check that the heat shields are all in place, the coil packs dont like getting very warm. Low oil is low oil, add some.

Make sure to use an original equipment unit and not a spurious replacement. Spurious replacements normally dont last long.

Will top it up before I move it next.

    Thanks all for your replied.

Normally it is more rougher if one of the coil plugs gone.

on mature reflection, while eating a plate of spuds and a steak, if your cars burning a drop of oil, try taking out the plugs and cleaning them- the rings might be shot and oil getting back up the bores into the plugs causing contamination - maybe try just removing the plugs and giving them a clean? If they are very fouled with carbon that would cause rough running.

1.4 Ibiza has 4 individual coils, so thats possible.

I thought it was only Renaults that gave coil trouble!!!? I hope all the people that have problems with their SEATS will remember the hassle when people start bashing Renaults !!!!

Recently worked on a 1.2 02 Polo. Same sounding problem.

Pencil coil was at fault on cyclin No.3, €45 from local motor factors.

Also cleaned the spark plugs while i was at it.

Cleared the fault codes and dash lights and now running like a clock.

    Hope you get it sorted.
