    Can i use wired broadband in the library if i bring in my laptop and a cable as the wireless in there is crap and only works every now and then!

    Unfortunately you're not allowed to connect a laptop to the college LAN with a cable, it's forbidden. If you go down to the very far right-hand corner of the library though you can sometimes pick up the wireless signal a lot easier there.

    the student wireless is separate from the main network (they can't run the risk of having virus / botnet attacks (or traffic) on the main network). Even if you did plug in to the main network you have to configure your laptop to the colleges proxy. I'm not 100% sure, but even after that, I think you need to log in with account details.
